About

Hello!

I am F1bythe numbers! Well, not really. In reality, I’m just a guy who loves working with data.

I studied an engineering degree in biotechnology and graduated a few years ago. I obtained a job as an environment, health and safety engineer at a manufacturing plant, but I wasn’t fully satisfied with what I was doing. After a few months, I applied for a scholarship to get my Master’s degree in biology in a different country and eventually moved to Canada.

After finishing my MSc I realized that laboratory life was not for me. I enjoyed working with computers and technical instruments.
I was lucky to get a contract position at a laboratory at the local university, where I realized what my passion really was. This laboratory worked with statistical software that I found really interesting, albeit a bit complicated. I had taken programming courses during high school and I realized that I could learn it if I just dedicated enough time.

Unfortunately, I found myself being unemployed at the end of 2018. That’s the life of the contract worker, especially in academia. You do a job for a few months, then the money runs out and it’s time to start over again.

I dedicated the beginning of 2019 to improve my abilities with programming and statistics, and that’s when I started this blog. I didn’t know what I was doing back then, and while I am more capable than ever, I still sometimes don’t know what am I doing. Having said that, it has been almost two and a half years since I started this project and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far.

The last few years have been difficult on a professional level. I was unemployed for 8 months before finding a part-time position of only 5 hours per week. This is clearly not enough to survive. I am very thankful for my girlfriend who allowed us to stay afloat while I struggled. Without her, this project would have never existed. It is because of her support that I got the courage and the time to start this site.

Even after years of hard work, I keep struggling to find a stable job. At the moment I am working as a data entry operator for the provincial health unit. This job has allowed me to get a stable income, but this is just a temporary position and I know that it will come to an end by the end of 2021. Still, I refuse to give up and I have been working harder than ever during the past few months.
Last year it was rough for this site. I couldn’t find the time or the motivation to create new content, so I kept the posts to a minimum. This year I have been feeling stronger and I have been investing more time and energy into creating new content.

If you like my site, please take the time to share it with more people so that I can keep this project growing. Also, if you want to support me with a donation I would really appreciate it. As I’ve said, I’ve been working hard on this site and in the next few days I will create a page that have the names of all my supporters. If you have already donated and don’t see your name on the site, just contact me and I will be sure to add your name.
